Principal's Message

“You’re off to great places! Today is your day!

Your mountain is waiting, So…Get on your way!

Dr. Seuss

It is with great pleasure that I greet you as the new principal of Monroe Elementary School.  I have been privileged to have spent 17 wonderful years as an educator working with students from both the elementary and middle school levels.  I have been a classroom teacher, a literacy coach, a middle school assistant principal and an elementary school principal.  Over the years, much of my focus has been in literacy development, the teaching of writing, and the creation of enrichment opportunities for diverse student populations.  Today, I am honored to lead this amazing school and to build on its past and current successes.

The Monroe Elementary School community is proud of the exemplary academic programs that have resulted in outstanding student academic achievement over the years.  In 2016 the California Department of Education recognized Monroe Elementary as a Gold Ribbon School and a Title I Academic Achievement Award School.  Monroe has also been named a California Distinguished School and has been a Bravo Award recipient.

The staff and teachers believe that the foundation of a good educational program is based on a strong partnership between home and school.  Together, we hope to strengthen links with you as your children move through the grades, enabling them to develop and realize their full potential across the breath of the curriculum.

Our rigorous English mainstream program challenges our students to collaborate, think critically, to be effective communicators and to design, build and create.  Similarly, our dual language immersion program ensures that our “dual language learners” promote to middle school with the ability to speak, read and write proficiently in both English and Spanish.

Please stop by and visit us and meet the dedicated staff and teachers who work here. I eagerly anticipate the exchange of ideas between school staff, teachers, parents, community members, and the most important stakeholders---the students---The Mighty Monroe Lions! I look forward to getting to know you, and I am confident that your child’s time at Monroe will be enjoyable, successful and memorable.

For our kids,

Lily Jarvis, Ph.D.
